You may be debating finally straightening your smile due to fear of comfort, time commitments, and worry about getting traditional braces. Often, the “traditional” version of braces are steel braces with banded brackets. However, our office is a provider of Invisalign, clear aligners with a variety of benefits over traditional steel braces. While steel braces are highly visible, can cause pain, and can take years, Invisalign clear aligners solve many of these problems in a discrete and manageable way.
How Does Invisalign Work
The Invisalign process is similar to that of traditional steel braces but with less pain. As a first step, you will meet with your dental team to review the overall process, any concerns your team may have, as well as all aftercare instructions. You will then have x-rays and molds taken in order to determine the correct fit for the retainer. At this stage, you will also review the wearing plan and straightening stages. Once all has been reviewed, you will try your first custom-fit aligner to ensure it provides a seamless feel. As each stage of straightening happens, you will move on to a different level of fit.
Benefits of Invisalign
If you’re debating traditional steel braces versus Invisalign, you’ll be happy to know that there are a variety of benefits to Invisalign including:
- As-Needed and Adaptable: While traditional braces are glued and bonded to the teeth, Invisalign can be taken out if needed. Additionally, the wearing schedule can be somewhat customized to fit your needs.
- Pain-Free Fit: Steel braces and their brackets can often cause mouth sores, redness, and pain points. However, the smooth surface of Invisalign avoids any irritation, and the tight custom fit keeps it from gapping or warping.
- Discretion: One of the biggest perks of Invisalign is that they are almost invisible. The almost clear color allows them to be worn during the day and out in public with minimal notice.
